Post Christmas stuffings

I'm stuffed from X'mas day!

X'mas was spent at Ron's place with turkey, ham, pasta, baked fish and cheese & lemon tart! And the great thing was she packed food for my mummy that's enough for all 3 of us!

so we had:

1. Tomato based pasta sauced which I added minced pork into and we had it for lunch yesterday.  ( My mum had it for dinner too.)

2. Turkey gravy that she pureed with celery and carrot (I think - I wasn't really paying attention when we pureed the sauce). I just fried some onions and chicken thigh meat with the sauce, and stewed it with potatoes and carrots. I diluted it with chicken stock. And judging the amount we have in the pot, we'll have it for tomorrow's meal as well. I think the gravy will taste so good with toast wholemeal bread. oh yums!

3. another container of pasta that I will leave for a couple more days. maybe make a salad or something.

++++

I went out with hubby to Orchard road yesterday. There were lots of family taking pictures with half dressed reindeers and with the tree at Ngee Ann city. It's nice to see the lights. But I have a little rant.. I just hate it when there's live singing in departmental stores like Centrepoint and the sound system is too loud. That takes the joy away from shopping. Seriously, how can you think clearly when the singer is blasting into your ear drums when you are trying to make a decision? I'm more of a background music person when shopping.

Which brings me to...

"Dong Dong Dong Chang" music for CNY that's arriving in 6 weeks time, exactly on Valentine's Day. Oh boy, and it's all happening again.

Japan Short Notes #15

Day 19 - 03/10/09
Watched 表 嫂 performed at Yokohama Chinese Association and met up with Maki and hubby.

Day 20 - 04/10/09
Had dinner with and family.表 嫂 brother cooked us a sumptious dinner of shark fins and
stewed pig trotters. He is a chef at a 5* hotel.

Day 21 - 05/10/09

表 嫂 sister drove us up to Hakone. The weather was finally cool and it drizzled the entire day. We were initially worried about driving to Hakone as the roads up the mountain area could be slippery and the visibility low. But is wasn't too bad and we had an enjoyable time there.

We also ate eggs cooked in Owakudani geysers, the shell of white eggs turned black after cooking.

Day 22 - 06/10/09

Left Japan with a little heavy heart (JSN #7 here)but missing Singapore very much. Sounds corny but I do miss home and ultimately Sg is home. =)

Japan Short Notes #14

I can't believe that I'm still stuck on JSN after 2 months, but that's me.. I take so long to blog about anything!

I have folders on my mac with pictures that I painstakingly take because "one day I'm gonna blog about it.." and guess what? The no. of files are increasing each month! Ha!

Ok, I will try to make it short.

Day 15- 30/09/09

Spent the entire rainy day at Nara. Lots of small shops, lots of rain. I wouldn't mind going there to explore the nooks and creeks again. Saw lots of deer and Todaji Temple (but didn't enter). The deers are cute and hungry but their poops are not so cute when it's mixed with rain water and coats on your jeans. Eew!

Day 16- 31/09/09
We spent the entire day at Universal Studio, Japan. I love theme parks but didn't get to sit on most of the rides as it was too crowded and have to fork out either another SGD 35 (approx for 2 pax) or wit an entire hour. We put the time to better usage and caught performance and taking pictures.

Day 17- 01/10/09

We walked around Osaka and along Dotombori.

Hotel stayed in: New Hankyu Hotel

Day 18- 02/10/09

Shopped around various shopping complexes and took the shinkansen to Yokohama in the evening. Reached 表 哥‘s home around 103opm.
It rained last night....

I wish I can read a little faster...

Apple predators

Hubby went for the Ipod 1 for 1 promotion at Epicentre@313 Somerset today.

He told me these people were staring at the cashiers like eager predators.. he felt scared for them hahahah.

Anyway, it lasted for 5 mins after 6 pm (6 to 11pm) after only 20 sets were grabbed.

Ipod leh.... 2 for the price of one, 8 GB, of course they were like hungry predators!

Love and other disasters

I stumbled upon this on Youtube and I WANT to watch it! Not sure if it's released on DVD here though, haven't seen it on hollywoodclicks. Will look out for it when I pop by Video Ezy.

Matthew Rhys from Brothers and Sisters is in it too.

The Ramen Girl

I can't believe that Brittany Murphy is dead. Her COD was cardiac arrest but she's only 32!
Hubby and I watched "The Ramen Girl" recently on DVD after returning from Japan  and it was a fun movie that feeds our withdrawal symptoms from Japan. I just love the interaction between the Jap chef and BM and how the chef reminds us of our 表 哥 when he goes "huuuh?"

The point is why do celebrities die so young? The are still awaiting autopsy so it may take awhile to conclude. 32 is so close to my age, it could happen anytime....

She also acted in "Clueless", that was in 1995 and also in "Girl, Interrupted" and voice of a penguin in "Happy Feet".

Remembering

Missing you guys.

Classmates & Babies

Saturday was a lovely day of old classmates and babies.

After a year of past meet up, Jo decided to have a small gathering before 2009 ends and so we met at The coffee club @ Raffles City. We chatted and updated each other and gasp at news of long lost friends and marvel at pictures of babies, dogs and brother (me) I haven't seen in 15 years.

Amazing how time flies  in the blink of an eye.. how the past just became my past just like that. How last year just became a blur.

I am now indulging in my introspective self and I realised that my life will pass me by with nothing to remember for if I let it so. I need to have a grip, I need to make things matter. I need to have memories of mine that I will hold on to.

The days in school taught me so much and it was the foundation of my life. I learnt to be assertive, to speak up, to say "NO". I learnt that there are people like me who are in limbo and seeking affirmation. I learnt who are my friends to count on and I learnt growing up means making mistakes and taking the wrong road. I have learnt valuable lessons. On Sat, I was suddenly brought back to the days where we wore our blue pinafore and sat eating ice kachang and roti john and also to the day when we are called to leave our nest into the big bad world dressed in white (our school's graduation colour). That was the day I learnt to be an adult and it made me realised that in this world, my world is now my oyster and the sea is tempermental.

Dinner was at D&L's place. Anson is celebrating his 1 mth birthday and I was amazed that almost everyone has a kid, no make it 2. Babies and toddlers are everywhere! I felt left out.... do I hear a biological clock ticking?

Thank you Jo for the lovely earrings. Take a trip to Frue Frue for more pretties.

Butterfly Fly Away - To the both of you

I watched "Hannah Montana: The Movie" and I fell in love with a few songs and the energy. It's targeted for kids and I'm already moving on in my age, but it's fun and it's nice. Sometimes all you need are things that make you happy and chick flicks are one of them.

My grandma and mum took care of me as a child and this song brought me back to 3 when I was a pesky toddler, to 7 when I started P1 and to 9, when I had to take my streaming exams in Primary school.

Butterfly Fly Away

You tucked me in, turned out the light
Kept me safe and sound at night
Little girls depend on things like that

Brushed my teeth and combed my hair
Had to drive me everywhere
You were always there when I looked back

You had to do it all alone
Make a living, make a home
Must have been as hard as it could be

And when I couldn't sleep at night
Scared things wouldn't turn out right
You would hold my hand and sing to me

Caterpillar in the tree
How you wonder who you'll be
Can't go far but you can always dream

Wish you may and wish you might
Don't you worry, hold on tight
I promise you there will come a day
Butterfly fly away

Butterfly fly away, butterfly fly away
Flap your wings now you can't stay
Take those dreams and make them all come true

Butterfly fly away, butterfly fly away
We've been waiting for this day
All along and knowing just what to do
Butterfly, butterfly, butterfly, butterfly fly away

Butterfly fly away
Butterfly fly away

walking down memory lane - 红孩儿

please excuse  me hubby, I'm taking a long walk into memory lane. The past is so much fun and there's so many thing that evokes memories and the joy I had when life and myself was simple.

here's 3 MV from 1989 or so to 1992. These chinese songs gave me an incentive to learn mandarin, so I can understand the lyrics, copy them when I can't afford to buy the cassette and had to record form the radio and also to read the taiwan magazines with their interviews. A cassette tape cost $5.50 and it's so hard to track their magazines. Unlike now, news on idols are a dime in the dozen. Before 5566, my childhood idols were 红孩儿 (Red Hot boys),小虎隊 (Little tigers) & Jimmy Lin.

Those are such fun times. I think I will choose a few MV just for my viewing pleasure when I'm bored, and for me to play them as background music when I surf the net. It brings me joy to look at them and remember how my aunt and I used to scream in excitment when a new album is released or when they appear on TV. Yup, no cable then, on Ch 5 & Ch 8.

I can't believe 20 years have passed me by like that.

I will upload more MVs separately by 小虎隊.

You are my strength (Hillsong) cover

You are my strength
Strength like no other
Strength like no other
Reaches to me

You are my hope
Hope like no other
Hope like no other
Reaches to me

In the fullness of your grace
In the power of your name
You lift me up
You lift me up

Unfailing love
Stronger than mountains
Deeper than oceans
Reaches to me
