Makan_11: Tuna fusilli

Heh. This was my attempt to recreate what I saw on Ai's blog.
http://aixxx.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/1234/

It was ok, the sauce was too watery and it was pretty tasteless according to my 2 biggest fans and food tasters :)

Much Love Monday: Hope and looking forward

Source: http://www.ohiseered.com/2011/03/reminder-you-are-wonderfully-made.html

I have been in the dumps lately. Daily news of world wide tragedy and self perceived personal failure. It doesn't matter, I have to remember that I'm wonderfully made by God, thanks to Red. :)

This week I'm loving: Love, Hope and optimism.

Makan_11: Lian's Curry from Malacca

Last Sunday I cooked chicken curry. I loved the end results, the gravy was thick and spicy and we cleaned out the pot the next day with bread.

This packet of spice was bought in Malacca and it was expiring on 30 Mar 11. *yeeps*
I need to go to Malacca again.

Makan_11: Galilee's Fish and chips

It rained heavily last Sat. We took a trip to Queenstown NLB to reloot my books. I was so excited to spot 2 hardcover books that were newly released, that I had to borrow it. I personally prefer paperback because it is lighter but hardcover books looks so serious and the paper they used are of much better quality.

Hubby bought a cookies and cream coffee ice blended and was impressed by it. We decided to have our dinner at Cafe Galilee at the library.

I had the fish and chips. Huge portion, great deal for $7.50.

Hubby had the Roastery Chicken Leg. It was a little tough, he thinks it could be an overnight portion. I suspected over cooking, causing the loss of tenderness. $7.90.

We had a super moon yesterday

The moon was huge! Hubby pointed it out to me and remarked that it looks bigger than usual. I thought that it was because the skies were clearer after the heavy rain in the afternoon.

We took this at the bus stop. I wanted to take the moon with the MRT train but couldn't. Our bus came and we left.

Read about the super moon phenomenum. The moon is 50,000 km(?) closer to the earth last night. It's a rare occurance and I won't be surprised if werewolves and dogs starts to howl.

Hmm.. Maybe this would explain the peculiar behaviours of the 2 resident cats of this block. They have been meowing, growling and "quarreling" quite a bit in the last few days.

Baby Sophia

My dearest friend hunnie has given birth to a baby girl yesterday at 1816. Woot!

The strangest thing was I had a dream of her having contractions and was going to give birth soon on Friday night/ Sat morning! I dreamt that she was telling me that it's painful and she was lying on the bed. I MSG her and she told me she was having contractions since 3 am! Wow ! That was strange and pyschic. She had contractions the entire Sat with an interval of 5-8 mins, and I was informed by Gavin that she was in labour suite on Sun when I MSG her around 1pm.

Hehe. Now baby Sophia and my mummy share the same birthday :)

I'm so happy that both of them are well and healthy and congratulations once again to hunnie and Gavin with their lovely Sophia!

Uncle & auntie Mooch are looking forward to meeting you!

Celebrating mummy's Birthday

Today my mummy turns *ahem* in her fifties. We had an early birthday celebration for her at Wan Hao, Sg Marriot Hotel.

We had a feast eating dim sum and it's worth every penny!

Clockwise from left: Braised beef tendons with radish (so good and tender), 烧肉(BBQ pork), yam cake with 香肠(Chinese sausage) and 虾交 (prawn dumplings )

Chicken with frog leg and Chinese sausage

Salmon and Garoupa Siew Mai

Clockwise from left: Fish congee, deep fried enoki mushrooms (I can't remember what else is in there), coffee pork and prawn and beancurd in ma la sauce

Clockwise from left: Chinese bai cai, bass fish fillet with Nonya sauce, 上汤水交 ( dumplings in soup) and an assortment of custard bun, gyoza, chicken Siew Mai, pork bun.

There's also a yam pastry with minced meat and shrimp paste and char Siew pastry (not pictured)

We walked around Orchard and bought a bag for mummy. I was disappointed to find the Japanese shop selling delicate pastries and Mochi no longer at Takashimaya B2, near Cold Storage. They had such pretty stuffs!

We moved on to GWC and shared a spicy tuna pasta and ceaser salad amongst us at Coffee Bean.

Today we bought a strawberry shortcake and sang "Happy Birthday!"
Wishing mummy good health and happiness always!

Earthquake in Japan

Some say it's a prelude to 2012.. To me, it's one disaster too many.

Japan was hit by an earthquake of 8.9 magnitude yesterday. My heart hurts thinking of the many lives lost and my favourite country being tormented.
I pray that our cousin and niece and their family are safe. So far Yokohama is not affected but we just want confirmation.

The new starbucks logo looks weird!

In this undated product image provided by Starbucks, the company's new 40-year anniversary logo is seen on a cup at right. Other cups bearing the company's logo from over the years, from left, 1971, 1987, and 1992, are also shown. (AP Photo/Starbucks)

+++

So it's official, starbucks has released it's new logo in Sg today and boy it does look weird to me!

I have to agree with some comments I read in the branding online website. I never really paid attention to what was in the centre of the logo (i know it's a siren of some sort) but I definitely identified the coffee house by it's green border!

It seems they are dropping the word "Starbucks coffee" to include a vaster range of products. But I think the (too) green siren is too in your face.

To me, Starbucks= Coffee.

I hope with all the logo changes, their coffee will still remain a top piority and the standard remains the same, if not better.

I think changes will require some time to get use to. I'm not very good with changes, especially with things that I'm too familiar with. I just want things to remain a certain way that I hold comfort to. It's nostalgia and security. This applies to many more than just starbucks.

ps: do you know that coca cola is going to remove their brand name? And 7 up is going to have a new logo (positive change)?

Little Creatures and owls

Look what hubby and I found at Meidiya, Liang Court!

Little creatures beer! From Fremantle Perth! We thought it wasn't exported out of Perth but now that we found it, we are definitely going to buy it when we want a beer fix. Together with this, Hoegarden and Heineken are our favourites.

These owl beer packaging are so cute! I would probably buy it because of the kawaii factor but the beer description sounds tantalizing.

" smells of strawberries, an intriguing mix of sake and malt in the finish"

" hint of corriander, orange peel, nutmeg.."

Sounds good eh? But it cost SGD 9.50. Maybe another time.
