Hubby's Birthday

As I was saying, hubby is a simple man, we had a quiet celebration at home on Sun. Mum cooked steam fish, roast chicken meat , watercrass soup and we had a birthday cake.
The birthday cake was actually our wedding cake that we didnt collect from Raffles.
When he went to collect the cake on Sun, he was informed that the pastry chef wasn't happy with the quality of the cake, therefore, wasn't able to give it to him.
Instead, they hand delivered the cake to our home in the evening! My! What kind of service was that? We are duly impressed!

The design of the cake left much to e desired. It's coated in pink icing with some fake flowers (guess since it's for wedding.. but yucks..old fashioned 60s, 70s design..) but after removing the thick pink icing from the cake, the chocolate cake is heaven. Thick chocolate, spongy and warm.. it fills the mouth.
#will show the pix of cake if I remember in future#

Using HSBC 1 for 1 voucher, we ate at Patara Fine Thai at Tanglin Mall yesterday.
It's not too bad. the is not nice. meat is hard, the fats not smooth like the one we had at Food for Thought.
But try the Phuket Tulip crab curry. the meat is plentiful. We also had the New Zealand lamb, nice! No "smell", tender, the chilli was shiok but as the restaurant was really cold, the lamb turns cold pretty fast. Served with spring roll and salad.

Happy Birthday once again! muakz.

Happy birthday Dearie!
it's your day today.
Wish I could make it spectacular for you.
Love you lots!

food for thoughts for our birthday

So we (Renai, Roy, Hubby and myself) gathered at Lorraine's newly opened deli "Food for Thought" at South Bridge Road, opposite the National Library for a celebrations of birthdays.
Both Renai and hubby falls on the same day.Lorraine on the 30th and mine is one week later from today.

I like the concept of the deli, it's warm, cosy, the set up english with cupcakes and many cakes, brownies, cookies and handwritten chalk on all the blackboards.
The menus, the name of the chef and waiters and waitresses which their quirks are all listed.
It's gets a little crowded as diners started arriving at 7.30 pm.
but it's friendly!

We ordered the sandwich sampler set for four and we had the Shitake mushroom fennel soup and the very delicious potato Leek bacon soup. it's so good and sinful (hubby had it) and salty due to the bacon.. but i like! My shitake was good and healthy, no cream was used for th soup and there were sooo many shitake mushrooms and it's very filling.
we also had a chinese casear salad and

this..

my favourite! it's call TLC (Tomato, Lemongrass and corns). very unusual. with olive oil ( i think) dressing. i just like it's taste.
Their slow roasted pull pork sandwich is also my favourite, together with the braised pork sandwich - very sinfu! But gosh, it melts. We didn't try their desseert as Renai baked some cupcakes that she requested Lorraine to heat up in the oven. We had the "Kan Bei- cheers" with the cupcakes with Lorraine and Yee and set off shortly as the shop is closing.
check out www.foodforthought.com for the yummy menu with pictures attached! =)

We ended up in Ridout Mac. Watched their wedding videos, shared our wedding pictures, both studio and actual days (very nice), chatted and realised that one year ago, we were all single.. now married. Joked that babies would be next. It's a wonder how topics changed as we grow old. how we change in our thinking. Not jaded, but somehow resigned that this is a natural progression. We chatted between photographs, cuppacino, ice tea and lime juice and started yawning. (It's 1130pm). another sign of age creeping up on us.

As promised- Black ink Squid

There you go! Fettucine cooked with black squid ink. top with sun dried tomatos and grated cheese. An interesting dish!
our mouth is black, we need black napkins, the tissues that we used to clean our lips are black.. we looked perpetually poisoned! hah!
no fishy taste. well cooked. too much for 1.. just nice fot 2. if you finished the entire plate, you may feel sick... too "jelate".
Love trying out food. and eversince i tried my black squid ink ice cream last year at Hakodate (hokkiado), i'm eager to try all food related to black squid ink.
There a shop , outside Golden village in great world city that sells squid ink bread! hmmm.... soft fluffy bread. shd taste good with dips.

Kyushu Black Pig Bone Soup Shabu Shabu Chili Ramen

What a long name for a dish! But this is what I copied from the menu outside the restaurant.
Our favourite!
The soup was simmered for 2 days.. the pork is sliced so thinly and so soft that it almost melts in your mouth.
The soup is so good, rich and of course tasty. Chili is not overpowering and the noodle is cooked just nice.

Crispy Whitefish.
It's like fries, with a little salt on the side.
But the one we ate was cold. It would be better if it's hot and crunchy like the first time we ate it.

2276

We are going to Gold Coast for our honeymoon!
It was a long long wait of 3 hrs just to get attended to.
Our mistake, we wanted to get a discount and thought that by going to the fair at Millenia walk, it would be settled within an hr. Oh no, it's small, the Q is long and the booking system are not linked to the main shop!
so in order not to waste anymore time, we went down to people's park and to get eerything settled at the main branch.

Horrors!

The Q is LONGER!!! there's a numbering system. It's like a polyclinic!!!!
we reached at ard 1730, took a no. 2276. the no. on the screen flickered.. 2220...
gosh...
at 1830... the number crawls to 2236...

i'm going to die....

the hubby is patient.. i'm not. i started to fidget.
then he suggest.. listen to your ipod. i resist (dunno why), just being an irritant.

at 1900... jumps to 2254...
yay.. it's reaching...

i took out the ipod, he went to buy muah chii, we listened to "Beautiful worship".
i felt better. calmer and feet started tapping to the beat.

finally at 1930 ... its our turn.
yes.. the date is avaible. i'm sorry there's only 2 who are booked. we need 15 to go. it's not confirmed...
we will inform you 2 weeks before the departure dates. we can let arrange for another location where there is a confirmed group ... nooooo..... we need a confirmation.
* we were dejected"
why don't you join the free and easy tour?
*we lighted up.*
can you help us to check the tickets and accomodation here?
no... (points to the F&E counter) you need to re queue...

arrrrgh!

but it's only 2 more to wait.

haiz.. okkaay...

and so we wait, a nice little albeit blur girl attended to us. she is so cheerful and happy. think it rubs off me.
we got our dates, choose our room. settled the cost.
not too much of a price difference as we wanted to extend the trip.
reminds me why we didn't like joining tour groups.
hard to get confirmation unless it's for sell out destinations during popular dates.
otherwise, we have to wait with bated breath for confirmation.

and i'm sorry, dearie for being a grouch.
