SINGAPORE: The postman will stop collecting and delivering mail on Saturdays from the middle of this year.
From May 15, SingPost will scale back collection and delivery due to falling mail volumes from changes in lifestyle and mailing habits.
It will collect and deliver from Mondays to Fridays, and will extend collection by an hour on Fridays.
SingPost said the public mail volume has declined by 22 per cent between 2002 and 2009.
It attributed the decline over the years to the emergence of new communication tools such as email, SMS and other technological platforms.
On average, a person posts only six letters or cards per year. In addition, many companies and organisations are now operating on a five-day week, resulting in less mail on Saturdays. |

It makes sense to let the postman have a 5 days work week.... but deliveries on Saturdays are important when you subscribe to video rentals :(
